Sam Cook

What is the role of a Lord of the Flies Ambassador?
Sam and Shaun, the Lord of the Flies Ambassador's for London are leading the search for our young male cast.  They will be running workshops in schools and with youth groups across London as well as hosting Open Calls in May, June and July.  Once the final cast has been selected, Sam and Shaun will support the young performers in learning the movement material and will help prepare them for the shows in October!

Get to know Sam......

How did you get in to dance?
Shortly after changing schools, the dance teacher spoke to me and asked me if I wanted to do dance at GCSE. I wasn't very keen as I'd never had any interest in dance and only really liked rugby and football! Then she told me the class was made up of 30 girls and I swiftly changed my mind! I haven't looked back since!

What training have you done?
I trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, graduating in 2010. One day I'd like to do a masters in choreography or dance film.

How did you become a Lord of the Flies Ambassador?
I've been teaching for almost as long as I've been dancing so when I saw the Ambassador role advertised I jumped at the chance of applying. The opportunity to work with both New Adventures and Sadler's Wells was something I couldn't pass up. So I applied immediately and started preparing my audition workshop. We had to deliver a workshop on the theme of 'Tribal' which to be honest terrified me but after some research and experimenting I had fun and really enjoyed the experience.

What was it like at Lord of the Flies bootcamp?
Intense! We learned a lot of repertoire from the piece quickly and Scott Ambler's attention to detail made it a gruelling process! But it was a fantastic experience and an amazing way to connect with other ambassadors and the New Adventures team.

What three words would you choose to sum the Lord of the Flies project?
Inspiring. Gigantic. Life-changing.
